The Bridal couples' sarcophagus
The Bridal couples' sarcophagus was discovered in a tomb of the necropolis of
Banditaccia of Cerveteri and is attributed to the about 520 B.C. The sarcophagus is a sculpture in terracotta, in which the cover represents the figures of a bridal couple, lying on a recliner, that is a bed, which they used during the banquets. The man rests his arm affectionately on the shoulder of his wife and the features of the two figures following the typical character of the Etruscan sculpture, with simple and straight lines but in the same time elegant. The form is very careful in same particulars as you can observe from the pointed shoes called calcei repandi, which the bridal couple is wearing.
