It is difficult to rebuild a careful history of the Etruscans, because of the missing rather than the loss of the historiographic memories written by the Etruscans. The only source, which has remained, is Roman or Greek, which refers to facts from a different point of view or perhaps later respect to the events retold. There are nevertheless many traditions, especially linked to the origin of Rome, from these it can be attained with due caution, by always verifying archaeological finds.
In finding therefore the presence of a picture of the Etruscans, we can individualise a period so called
archaic, which is from the XI century to the start of the V century B.C. in which corresponds to the higher grade of the wealth of this population. Then there was the so called period of decline, up until the III century B.C. and the period of slow absorption by the part of the Roman power, in which arrives at the I century B.C. with the imposition of the Roman citizenship, the end of Etruria.
