The Roman Villa of the Guardiole
A t the 64,600 km. near the Fossa delle Guardiole, can be found the remains of an thermal establishment and of other interesting structures relative to a Roman marine villa with also a notable complex of fishponds that extend along the line of the coast for almost 400metres. The biggest fishpond is formed by only one rectangle tank but with the side turned towards the sea curved to form a semicircle. The entire complex is today almost completely underwater and therefore visible in a clear way only by a view area.
The villa, built in the habitat of
Castrum Novum, opened directly onto the ancient Via Aurelia, in this point revealing 5.30m. Wide. The recent excavation has brought to the light attributing areas of two phases mainly built, that is the end of I to the start of the II century A.D. An area still conserved traces of black and white mosaic pavement.
